Position Paper – Part One

A major problem in society today is families are reclaiming their children that they put up for adoption. This is because the fathers consent isnt always nessisary. It also can be atributed to the higher divorce rates. They are allowed to do this because the current law states that the children can be reclaimed 12 months after adoption. A simple solution would be to not allow reclaimation at all. However, in the few cases that are genuine, this revised law will not work. Another simple solution would be to rewrite the law completely to say that if a child is to be reclaimed that the biological prents must do it within 30 days, they must show that they are able to support the child economicly, and they must be able to reimburse the foster parents for the adoption fees, schooling fees (if nessisary), clothing, and other various things.
A couple facts that demonstrate that our problem is serious are, Adopting Children in the United States, states that there is no law about reimbursing the foster parents. Even if by time the biological parents decide to reclaim their child, even if its 11 months and 29 days, no return of funds needs to be made.
